YOUR EYES ARE SPECTRAL MACHINES - 16mm Performances by Luis Macias
FRAMES is thrilled to welcome Spanish filmmaker Luis Macias to London for a presentation of his unique & innovative expanded cinema performances for multiple 16mm projectors.
Macias is a co-founder and active member of CRATER-Lab in Barcelona, an artist-run space for the creation and exhibition of analogue experimental film projects. His performances explore the materiality of the photochemical medium, altering and transforming the image through rhythmic manipulation of the projection apparatus.
PROGRAM
INSIDE - OUTSIDE - AROUND
2 x 16mm Projectors + 1 x 35mm Slide Projector | colour | Digital Sound by Tomas Novoa | 20 minutes
A forest in his natural transformation.
At that beautiful moment between reality and dreaming, an incorporeal forest emerges from the darkness and light. Dark, violent and self- assured, it shares its fears of nature’s despair.
THE ANALOG OCEAN
México-Spain | 2022 | 16mm | colour | sound | 9 minutes
"The ocean is the only crossing to arrive to the Mount Analogue . Through each wave, which breaks into each of the primary colors, a gateway opens to a new perception... That of an ocean as deep, dark, and as difficult to access as the climb to the highest mountain. To the top where the sixth sun can be perceived"
First piece of the short film series for the Sixth Sun project. Inspired by the pre-hispanic myth of the Sixth Sun.
This chapter is inspired by the René Daumal book “Mount Analogue"
THE EYES EMPTY AND THE PUPILS BURNING OF RAGE AND DESIRE
2 x 16mm Projectors | colour & b/w | silent | 25 minutes
Begins with the absence of an image that is its own destruction and builds a particular organic universe that is slowly emerging from a relation of excitement and love between the emulsion and the projector.
Without image. Without sound. Without description.
NOTE: This presentation contains flickering images some viewers may find uncomfortable.
